Government College, Bahu, Jhajjar established in June 2012, was founded to provide higher education to students in this educationally underserved region. Initially, female students had to attend the co-educational Government College in Jhajjar. The college started its first session 12 years ago with more than 150 students and offered two undergraduate programs, B.A and B.Com. Today, it has grown into a prominent institution with nearly 500 students enrolled in the same programs. Affiliated with Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, the college is recognized under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act. The college was accredited with grade ‘B’ by NAAC in 2025.

Currently, around 400 students are enrolled at Government College, Bahu. The college campus spans 10.5 acres, featuring a newly constructed building equipped with modern facilities. It boasts a well-equipped Resource Center, two Computer Labs, a Language Lab, two Geography Labs, Internet Facility, Lecture Theaters, a Multi-Purpose Hall, and two Smart Classrooms. The college library is well-stocked with a wide range of books, journals, and magazines on academic subjects and competitive examinations, and includes a Book Bank. Additionally, the college has installed a 10KW Solar System.

The college is dedicated to providing quality education to the girl students in a secure and supportive environment. It fosters a culture of knowledge building, critical thinking, skill enhancement, and self-learning. Through a comprehensive array of student-centric activities and approaches, the college ensures the holistic development of its students.

The college organizes special classes for weak students and help them to overcome their fears by guiding them to correct life choices to empower them. Government College, Bahu, Jhajjar, has several opportunities that can be leveraged to enhance its educational offerings and institutional development. One of the primary opportunities is the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Institutional Challenge

Government College, Bahu, Jhajjar, faces several challenges that need to be addressed to maintain and enhance its educational standards. One of the foremost challenges is the competition from private educational institutions that often have more resources of their own. The one another challenge is lack of transportation facilities for students is there in college.

The college also grapples with the challenge of financial sustainability. Reliance on government funding, which can be inconsistent, poses a risk to the college’s ability to plan and execute long-term projects. Limited financial resources constrain the institution's ability to upgrade infrastructure and introduce new programs .

Moreover, there is a challenge in keeping the curriculum updated to meet the evolving demands of the job market and higher education standards. Rapid technological advancements and changing industry requirements necessitate continuous curriculum revision and the introduction of new, relevant courses. Ensuring that the faculty is adequately trained to deliver these updated courses is another aspect of this challenge.

The rural setting of the college, while offering unique opportunities, also presents challenges. Attracting students and faculty to a rural area can be difficult, especially when compared to urban centres that offer more amenities and opportunities. Additionally, the college must address the transportation and connectivity issues that can affect accessibility for students and staff. Lastly, the college faces the challenge of integrating modern pedagogical approaches and technology into its teaching methods.

Curricular Aspects

Curriculum is the essential ingredient of any education system regardless of the education level. All other aspects whether teaching, learning and evaluation or research and development, infrastructure and learning, resources, student activities and support system revolve around it. There for, curricular aspects and the best practices connected to curriculum design and development play a very significant dimension of the quality of higher education since the curriculum has a decisive role in steering the other elements of quality. Reviewing and updating of the curriculum is the essential ingredient of any vibrant academic system.

Designing of the curriculum to suit the clientele is important. Revising the curriculum should be a continuous process to provide an updated education to the students at large. Leaving a few, there have been many universities where this exercise has not been done for years together and it is not uncommon to find universities maintaining, practicing and teaching still on the curriculum as old as few years or even more than a decade. In order to overcome these lacunae NAAC has made efforts to compile the best practices in each of the criterion of quality and disseminate the same through publications, seminars, workshops and conferences across the country. The purpose of this publication is to provide a broad common framework for exchange, mobility and free dialogues across the entire academic community to generate a spirit of openness and continuous improvement in order to enhance the quality and standards of education imparted by the higher education institutions in the country.

The important initiatives we need to dwell on are:-

1. Development of need based, career oriented and socially relevant courses.

2. Relevant and global curriculum in a fast developing world.

3. Emerging areas in innovative and inter disciplinary areas have to be evolved.

4. Periodic restructuring and updating of courses to match international standards.

5. Extensive and intensive academic exercise for the restructuring of the courses.

6. Additional emphasis on ICT component to upgrade content and transaction of curriculum at different levels.

7. Cafeteria approach for diversification to enhance employability of graduates.

Teaching-learning and Evaluation 

Government College, Bahu, Jhajjar, employs a multifaceted teaching-learning and evaluation approach tailored to the needs of its predominantly rural student population. The college emphasizes experiential, participative, and problem-solving learning methodologies, complemented by advanced ICT tools. Experiential learning is fostered through activities such as outdoor tours, cultural heritage travels, and creative competitions. Participative learning is encouraged through co-curricular activities organized by various committees, including NSS, Women Cell, Sports, and Cultural Committees, which provide students with opportunities to engage actively and gain practical experience. Problem-solving is supported by offering dual medium instruction in Hindi and English, and by providing interactive platforms like WhatsApp groups for academic discussions.

ICT-enabled tools play a significant role in enhancing the educational experience at Government College, Bahu, Jhajjar. The college boasts a smart classroom and specialized labs for Geography and Language, along with campus-wide Wi-Fi access, facilitating digital learning and research. Teachers leverage ICT tools to deliver presentations, online lectures, and encourage the use of the internet for assignments and classroom activities. The institution is also developing a language lab to improve students' communication skills, especially in spoken English, aiming to make them more self-reliant and proficient in both academic and professional settings.

The college maintains a rigorous and transparent assessment process, ensuring fairness and adherence to university regulations. Internal assessments are conducted systematically, based on attendance, class tests, and assignments, with provisions for resolving discrepancies through direct communication with faculty. The institution also ensures a conducive environment for external examinations, with strict anti-malpractice measures in place. A comprehensive grievance redressal mechanism at the department, college, and university levels ensures timely resolution of examination-related issues. Government College, Bahu, Jhajjar has demonstrated significant progress in resource mobilization for research over the past five years.

· The college has created a robust ecosystem for innovations, including the promotion of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS).

2. Research Publications and Awards: 

· Faculty members are encouraged to publish their research findings. Over the last five years, the college has seen the publication of numerous research papers in journals notified on the UGC CARE list, as well as the publication of books and chapters in edited volumes.

· The college has consistently supported its teaching staff by granting duty leaves for attending seminars, conferences, and workshops, thus fostering a culture of continuous learning and research.

Institutional Support and Collaboration:

· The college’s library is a significant resource, housing thousands of books, including textbooks, reference books, and journals. It also features a dedicated Book Bank and an E-library section, providing access to various digital resources such as Shodhganga, Shodhgangotri, National Digital Library, Swayam, and e-PG Pathshala.

· Collaboration with other institutions and industries has been a key focus area. The college is a Nodal Centre of IIRS, Dehradun, coordinating online outreach courses and training programs. It has also organized national webinars in collaboration with institutions like NIGMT Foundation, New Delhi.

· The Placement Cell has been active in organizing job fairs in collaboration with entities such as NIIT IFBI and ICICI Bank, enhancing students' employability.

· Recently, the college has sent a draft proposal for signing MoU with APCPL, Jharli, Central University of Haryana, Pali and TIT & S Bhiwani for enrichment of students knowledge and helping them in their employability.

Promoting Innovation and Skill Development:

The college organizes science exhibitions, encouraging students to present innovative project models. Competitions like poster making and PPT presentations further foster creativity. Skill development courses, such as the compulsory 'Basics of Computer' diploma and 'Environmental Studies', are offered to students, enhancing their knowledge and awareness of critical issues. · Guest Lectures: Experts from various fields speak on gender equity and the importance of women's roles in society.

· Awareness Programs: Committees like the NSS Women Cell organize lectures and competitions on topics such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Women Empowerment, Human Rights, Health, and Cyber Crime.

· Cultural and Social Activities: Rallies, slogan writing, poster making, mehndi competitions, and collage making are regularly held to engage students in gender equity topics.

· International Women’s Day: Celebrated with programs honoring women's achievements and addressing ongoing challenges.

Safety and Security

Ensuring the safety and security of students, particularly female students, is a priority. The college has implemented several measures:

· CCTV Surveillance: Cameras are strategically placed across the campus to monitor activities.

· RO Water Facilities: UV-treated RO water is available throughout the campus.

· Anti-Ragging Committee: This committee ensures new students feel safe from ragging.

· Nutritional and Hygiene Education: Regular lectures on nutrition and female hygiene are organized.

Counseling Services

Impact on Students and Community: Students have actively participated in rallies focusing on critical issues such as drug de-addiction, road safety, cleanliness, anti-tobacco, water conservation, voting awareness, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, and balanced diets. The college's NSS unit has organized camps in different villages, promoting environmental initiatives such as bans on single-use plastics, waste management programs, and plantation drives. These activities instill in students a sensitivity and respect for the environment.
